DOKO The D.A.I.

DOKO: The D.A.I. is a case study that originated as part of Glocal Pvt. Ltd.’s National Case Study Competition 2023.
The National Case Study Competition expected us to make a case study on one of 6 themes “Green Ecosystem, International Connectivity, Sustainable Economy, Green Ecosystem and International Connectivity, Green Ecosystem and Sustainable Economy, or International Connectivity and Sustainable Economy.“
We chose the theme Green Ecosystem and Sustainable Economy:
(Problem Statement)
A case study of a business that has implemented sustainable products, such as energy-efficient or environmentally friendly products. The case study would examine the development of the product, the challenges faced, and the financial benefits, such as cost savings and increased sales.

But DOKO Recyclers wasn’t our first choice. We first landed on Sajha Yatayat (a public bus transportation company) but since Sajha Yatayat is a really big service so it came with a lot of news and case studies attached to itself. Not just that the finances weren’t good for Sajah Yatayat at that time. Although it was the first Bus Sewa to buy and include electric buses in its fleet only 3 out of many were operational and the rest were just sitting in the parking lot collecting dust. Their business especially the electric business wasn’t sustainable. Sajah Yayatay ran on PPP (Public Private Partnership) so the Nepal Government had to inject money on many occasions to support its operation
So after going back and forth on many companies, we landed upon DOKO Recyclers. I had researched about it previously and had a surface understanding of what this company does. Also, at that time I was working with Youth Innovation Lab and during a program, I had the chance to interact with Eloiza (the delegation of EU to Nepal) who told me about DOKO Recyclers and how the Delegation of EU in Nepal was working with them as a partner. She shared with me the contact of the founders which was a big help.
Now, with our company finalized we hopped on the big task of completing the case study.
We started researching the company even more. Found the basic information but struggled to more in-depth information outside their website like “the motive behind establishing Doko Recyclers”, “their business model”, profitability, and the challenges they are facing.
So we decided to schedule a field visit and an interview with the spokesperson to better understand DOKO Recyclers. (Images of the Interview and field visit are attached below)
After gathering all the essential information, data, and insights into the business we started incorporating them into our case study. The data were analyzed, cross-verified, and interpreted to better help audiences get a grasp of the company.
We also had a shocking finding, Our initial thought on waste recycling was that “It’s either getting dumped in Landfills or there aren’t more companies who are working on it” but in fact “There are tons of companies working on waste recycling, and had formed like a Syndicate Rule in the Kathmandu Valley and preventing new companies with a more innovative business model to enter the market.”
This was a great addition to our case study. Even after the initial interview, we remained in touch with DOKO Recyclers to gather more information as we went deep into the subject.
After a month of researching and compiling our findings, this is our Detailed Case Study presentation that we presented during Glocal’s CEO Unplugged series in 2023.
Yeah, our team name was Trash Titans, I know I know it sounds cringe but we liked it that time :\\
